I've always appreciated the tongue-in-cheek humor of that quote (if you're unfamiliar with his playing, the humor may be lost), and I've had big respect for Arto, since back in the day when INDOOR LIFE and DNA played a few concerts together (in 1981).


  INDOOR LIFE

Dino J.A. Deane - trombone/electronics             Jorge Socarras - vocals

Sabella - drums & synthesizers        Bob hoffnar - bass & feedback bass

 

 DNA

Arto Lindsay - 12 string guitar, Ikue Mori - drums, Tim Wright - bass

 

His 12 string tuning, technique and vocal style were completely authentic and original, and while the band might have come off as erratic it was actually very tightly structured.

Fast forward to 2012, my first interview for a "Straight Up Guitar Zine", and the humor of String Theory still holds true.....everybody thinks they're a guitar player.
