Conduction®: The practice of conveying and interpreting a lexicon of directives to construct or modify sonic arrangement or composition; a structure-content exchange between composer/conductor and instrumentalists that provides the immediate possibility of initiating or altering harmony, melody, rhythm, tempo, progression, articulation, phrasing or form through the manipulation of pitch, dynamics, timbre, duration, silence, and organization in real-time. : CONDUCTION.US

As I enter my 21st year as a conductor, a practitioner of the Art of Conduction, I am committed to moving this method forward with my own ensembles and by providing workshops for musicians, actors & spoken word artists who have a keen interest in exploring the unknown and enhancing their creative abilities while discovering the heart of their true voice through collaborative composition within a large ensemble.

collaborative composition by strong individuals within a large ensemble

an energetic feedback-loop develops between the symbolic and the sonic

The first time I tried conducting using the Lexicon, it felt like Qi Kung to me and in that moment I got it. This was about the exchange of energy and composition was the manifestation of that exchange. It became immediately clear that to approach the ensemble with any agenda would be pure folly on my part. The only choice I had to make was that of the first sign (the symbolic), to which the ensemble would respond with sound (the sonic), which would make the choice of the next sign self-evident.

through this energetic exchange a musical form emerges perfectly on it's own

I can't think of any musical experience that is as challenging yet liberating or has such a profound effect on the personal musicianship, creativity and integrity of the participant than that of is pure gift and this is pure magic.

this is composition in real-time : orchestration in the moment : not free improvisation

the conductor is responsible for structure : the musicians are responsible for content

watch all the time : listen to everything : play from the heart not from the head
