THE WATER WAY

Traveling With Electronics : The Water Way

.....as fluid as melting ice

When I am asked to talk about improvisation - an image of water flows into my mind.

The act of Improvising is nothing more than composing music in the moment and following the water way while you do it is as real-time as it gets - Wu Wei.

FLUIDITY : HUMILITY : INNER STRENGTH

Water is completely flexible on the outside with incompressible inner strength. The wisdom of water is trust. Water is humble (without ego). The essence of water is to flow with no control of it's path, seeking the lower level, knowing that without notice circumstances will change in a moment. Water has no shape yet can be any shape.

Over the course of a lifetime in music, the majority of the time as an improvising artist this is what I have come to understand about creating musical form...in the moment. When you are truly in the moment music and form come through you not from you.

TRUE MASTERY CAN BE GAINED BY LETTING THINGS GO THEIR OWN WAY

  shout out about MADELIFE

Justin Forthuber (Director of Operations) at MADELIFE is hosting a very cool and inclusive open-stage series for electronic music producers called BEAT CYPHER - this is my piece from the 12/14/17 session #2 : Loop-Juggling on the MPC-Live

Now that I have accepted the reality that the MPC sucks at live-sampling and I'm finding my fluidity on this truly expressive instrument ..... I am having BIG FUN!!

 shout out about THEATER GROTTESCO
