and joy is something I do seek in this music
The more the musicians become comfortable with the vocabulary, the more they will give. The more they give, the better the ensemble will sound. The better the ensemble sounds, the higher the level of music we will make. The higher the level of music we make, the more joy we will experience, and joy is something I do seek in this music.....Joy.

Lawrence D. Butch Morris (1947–2013) was an American jazz cornetist, composer & conductor internationally considered one of the great musical innovators of our times. His interests in ensemble music from avant-garde jazz to contemporary classical crystallized into a unique method of real-time orchestral composition which he called Conduction®. Morris toured the world introducing Conduction to a varied community of musicians and his influence extended into art, dance, poetry & cinema.
The Art of Conduction is a theoretical introduction and practical guide to Conduction.
During the last 10 years of his life, Morris worked to document his method in this book form; his untimely death left it near finished. Finally Daniela Veronesi, a linguist and longtime collaborator, brings his manuscript to completion. www.conduction.us
over the 28 years of our friendship, this was my position as live-sampler (center/back)
Through workshops and with my own ensembles, I am dedicated to moving this joyous work forward, for the experience of Conduction is one that enhances any musician's abilities in ways that no other musical experience can. workshops
