THE NEW RIG WRAP-UP

Traveling With Electronics : The New Rig Wrap-Up

.....two case carry-on performance rig

Over the past few months I've been sharing my journey into the currently available tech options as I try to update and streamline my live-sampling performance rig. A roadworthy setup that must be able to fit in a Pelican 1510 and a small backpack (carry-on) and be able to expressively cover a very wide range of sonic possibility.

You can catch up with the saga here:

EVER SHRINKING EVER EXPANDING

IN THE LOOP : AUTUMN 2017

so who made the final cut?

I am using three iPads (housed in survivor cases) - 2 ,4 and mini2

 AC powered

iConnectivity Audio 4+ : is the main hub / interface / mixer for all the audio and midi routing into, between and out of the iPads. This company's unique, robust interfaces have solved problems for the modern performer that others have failed to address. *the configure software is a bit cryptic so they are about to release a new user friendly update*

bus powered (class compliant) - i/o

BEHRINGER UCA202 : I know what you're thinking, but trust me, it just works :-)

 needs powered usb hub

AKAI MPK MINI : My main controller - for size / build / function / flexibility / playability and price, in the mobile usb controller arena, I don't think that there's anything better.

 bus powered (class compliant)

KMI QUNEXUS : While I still have reservations about KMI : I do like this controller.

AKAI MPC-LIVE : Akai has just released the second firmware update for the MPC (2.0.5) and while it doesn't address any of the unit's live-sampling shortcomings, I am hopeful that they will be addressed in a future update. What we have with the MPC-LIVE as it stands now, is a very powerful and expressive hardware sampler.

PIGTRONIX INFINITY : (IMHO) Simply the best hardware looper out there today!

 audio / midi routing

Elements used for a project are based on the needs of that project - bottom line is that the complete rig will travel nicely packed in a Pelican 1510 & a small backpack.

until next month then

safe travels.....dino
